On December 18, 58 Tongcheng released the “2024 New Occupation New Life New Service Report”, which shows that these emerging occupations cover four major areas: platform services, life services, digital economy, and intelligent manufacturing, injecting new momentum into the diversified development of society.

New profession! Over 50 rapid growth

Data shows that in the third quarter of 2024, the number of job applications for positions such as ‘short video operation’ and ‘new media marketing specialist’ increased by 8% and 25% respectively. In the field of life services, 58.com has added 24 new services, resulting in nearly 30 emerging job positions.

The report points out that these new professions are derived from two directions: new professions formed by the diversification of services within the platform through incubation; and innovative recruitment positions driven by market demand growth, including ‘live broadcast recruitment consultants’ and ‘pet trainers’ and other life service professions.

According to the data from 58 Daojia, as of the first half of 2024, the total number of workers on the platform has exceeded 2 million. Among them, the proportion of workers with college education or above has increased by 23% compared to the same period in 2021. Among the trainees participating in the training in 2024, the number of graduates from undergraduate or higher education institutions is 4.2 times that of the same period in 2023.

New demand! Digital economy occupations account for a high proportion

Among these new professions, there are positions related to the aging society such as ‘bathing assistants’ and ‘elderly care nurses’, as well as ‘professional organizers’, ‘children’s companions’, ‘accompanying consultants’, ‘healthcare providers’, and ‘postpartum recovery specialists’ which are ‘star professions’.

Taking child companion as an example, more than 70% of practitioners have a bachelor’s degree or above, among which majors like education and psychology are particularly favored.

On the 58 Tongcheng platform, the average fee for organizers and organizers from 2022 to now is 120-200 yuan per hour, and the monthly income of organizers and organizers with outstanding skills can reach 10,000 to 20,000 yuan.

In addition, data shows that half of the new occupations in the digital economy and life service sectors support flexible employment, especially positions such as ‘short video operator’ and ‘pet sitter’, which meet the preference of young job seekers for freelance work.

A joint randomized survey of multiple universities shows that nearly 20% of college students tend to choose flexible employment forms after graduation. Among the new occupations that college students are willing to engage in, digital economy occupations have the highest proportion, reaching 37.4%, followed by life service occupations, accounting for 29%.

Among the top ten most popular new professions, more than half support flexible employment. They are: self-media operator, organizer and tidying consultant, e-commerce anchor, live operation planner, child companion, health manager, pet trainer, accompanying consultant, elderly care nurse, and video promotion officer.
