The National Artificial Intelligence Application Scenario Innovation Challenge Finals and Innovation Summit, which aims to help Shenzhen build an artificial intelligence pioneer city, is held in Shenzhen.

On January 18th, the final of the 2nd National Artificial Intelligence Application Scene Innovation Challenge and the National Artificial Intelligence Application Scene Innovation Summit were held in Shenzhen.

At the opening ceremony, Dai Qionghai, counselor of the State Council, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, dean of the School of Information at Tsinghua University, and chairman of the CAAI, Chen Jing, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and researcher at the Southwest Institute of Electronic and Telecommunication Technology, Zhang Jianwei, foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Yang Qiang, fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and the Canadian Academy of Engineering, Chief AI Officer of WeBank, and vice chairman of the CAAI, Liu Chenglin, deputy director of the Institute of Automation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, national talent, and vice chairman of the CAAI, Xiong Hui, associate vice president of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) and fellow of the CAAI, Shi Yan, director of the specialized and new department of the Small and Medium Enterprise Promotion Center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Yang Jun, member of the Party Group and deputy director of the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province, Su Fangsheng, deputy director of the Shenzhen Artificial Intelligence Industry Office, and Zhang Xuan, member of the Party Group and deputy director of the Baoan District Science and Technology Innovation Bureau of Shenzhen, together launched the final.

2516 teams compete in five major thematic tracks

This event adopts the ‘1+1+8+5+N’ model to build a cooperative communication platform for the landing of full-stack artificial intelligence scenario applications, innovation and entrepreneurship, investment promotion, and achievement transformation, striving to create a benchmark brand for the innovation of artificial intelligence application scenarios and the industrialization of scientific and technological achievements in China.

The challenge competition has set up five major special tracks, including high-end, efficient and intelligent economy, building a safe and convenient smart society, achieving a green and healthy smart life, promoting the national smart scientific and technological innovation demand, and empowering enterprise digital transformation, with 36 application scenarios. It adopts two competition modes: ‘open special topics’ and ‘leaderboard leadership’, and is divided into three levels of selection, promotion, and final competition, consisting of five stages: online selection, key recommendation, regional promotion, roadshow competition, and science and technology award carnival.

Since the competition was launched in April last year, it has attracted 2,516 teams from key universities, scientific research institutions and science and technology enterprises across the country to sign up for the competition, and the review committee finally selected 110 projects from the special promotion competitions to be shortlisted for the national finals. The shortlisted projects cover emerging industries and future industry directions such as generative artificial intelligence scenarios, low-altitude economic scenarios, embodied intelligent robot scenarios, intelligent audio-visual scenarios, intelligent manufacturing scenarios, biomedical scenarios, intelligent mining scenarios, intelligent agriculture scenarios, intelligent logistics scenarios and intelligent financial scenarios. The evaluation dimension of the competition focuses on the project’s scientific and technological originality, core technology competitive advantage, typical industry application cases, and industrialization landing solutions. Among them, the projects that won the special prize in the national finals will be given priority to be nominated for the “Wu Wenjun Artificial Intelligence Science and Technology Award”.

The top 10 cities for innovative best practices in national artificial intelligence application scenarios have been announced.

Yang Jun, member of the Party group and deputy director of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology, said in his speech that Guangdong Province has always attached great importance to innovation and continuously promoted the development of the artificial intelligence industry. By 2024, the scale of Guangdong’s artificial intelligence industry has reached 220 billion yuan, with more than 1,500 artificial intelligence companies providing rich application scenarios for the industry.

Shi Yan, Director of the Specialized New Department of the SME Promotion Center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said in his speech that specialized new small and medium-sized enterprises have strong market potential and payment capabilities, and most of them have completed digital transformation and have the foundation for intelligent upgrading, making them ideal scenarios for the application of AI technology. The combination of artificial intelligence and specialized new small and medium-sized enterprises can unleash tremendous potential and further promote digital transformation and industrial upgrading.

Academician Dai Qionghai, counselor of the State Council, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and dean of the School of Information at Tsinghua University, pointed out in his speech that China’s industrial system is complete and its application scenarios are abundant, providing a fertile soil for future industrial development. However, the landing speed of diversified application scenarios is slow, the ability of AGI commercial model innovation is insufficient, and the extension and expansion of AI + multi-scenarios face challenges. There are barriers to scenario application demand and cooperation with large enterprises, and problems such as the integration of industrial scenarios and industrial ecology are prominent. Accelerating the research and development of artificial intelligence technology and innovative application scenarios has become a core focus for fostering new productive forces.

At the launch ceremony of the national finals, Academician Dai Qionghai, Chairman of the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence and Director of the Competition Organizing Committee, presented appointment letters to the chief judges. For the first time, the Organizing Committee of the National Artificial Intelligence Application Scenario Innovation Challenge released the TOP10 cities with the best practices in artificial intelligence application scenarios innovation in 2024, with Beijing, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Suzhou, Nanjing, Wuhan, and Tianjin making the list, showcasing the leading advantages of major cities in China in the field of artificial intelligence application innovation.

Experts Focus on Innovation of Artificial Intelligence Application Scenarios

During the competition, the National Summit on Innovative Applications of Artificial Intelligence was held concurrently, with one main forum and five sub-forums focusing on topics such as intelligent grain engineering, intelligent forestry, embodied intelligence, intelligent manufacturing, and intelligent low-carbon. The summit invited more than 120 experts from academia, industry, and investment, including Dai Qionghai, Chen Jing, Zhu Jiaojun, Zhang Jianwei, Yang Qiang, and Chen Junlong, to exchange ideas on the empowerment of artificial intelligence in new industrialization practices, explore the business models of generative artificial intelligence and the challenges of cutting-edge technologies such as general artificial intelligence ecology, and discuss the future trends of embodied intelligence, humanoid robots, brain-machine interfaces, multimodal large models, bio-manufacturing, and low-altitude economy. They also discussed the background, opportunities, challenges, and ethical security of China’s artificial intelligence development.

At the main forum, the report “Embodied Intelligence Connects the Physical World for the Benefit of Mankind” pointed out that with the development of large models and multimodal technology, robots will be widely used in many fields such as home, agriculture, and manufacturing, especially in the fields of household robots, personalized service robots, and agricultural production.

Dr. Yang Qiang, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer of WeBank, and Vice Chairman of CAAI, presented a report on ‘Collaborative Learning between Large and Small Models’. The report discusses how to address privacy protection issues through federated learning and transfer learning, and proposes a bidirectional learning approach combining large and small models. ‘We use large models as teachers and small models as students for bidirectional learning, which is one direction for the future development of artificial intelligence.’

Chief Scientist of China Unicom Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Research Institute, and Deputy General Manager of Unicom Data Intelligence Co., Ltd., Lian Shiguo, delivered a report on ‘In-depth Practice of Building Inclusive Artificial Intelligence System with ‘Artificial Intelligence+’’. He elaborated on Unicom’s experience in promoting industrial Internet, intelligent products and technologies, especially the intelligent application in procurement, design, production, quality inspection, etc. He emphasized that artificial intelligence should not only be the patent of large enterprises, but should also benefit more small and medium-sized enterprises and the general public.

Founder and Chairman of ChuanShen Language Networking Technology Co., Ltd., He Enpei, brought a report on “Real-time Learning Gives New Life to Large Models to Break Through Bottlenecks in Implementation”. It proposes the use of a “number-push separation” dual network architecture and efficient algorithms to separate the data learning network from the inference network, and achieve real-time learning of data through the joint inference of the two networks, thereby quickly adapting to new data and improving its response speed and accuracy to real-time tasks.

As the core engine city of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and an important global manufacturing innovation town, Shenzhen has the advantages of the ecological chain of the whole industrial chain of artificial intelligence. In order to accelerate the transformation of scientific and technological achievements and promote the intelligent transformation of regional industries, the organizing committee of the competition specially held special activities such as the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Scenario Application Demand Cooperation and Project Investment and Financing Matchmaking Meeting, and the National Closed-door Seminar on Talent Training and Industrialization of Artificial Intelligence Application Scenarios. Shenzhen Guangxingyuan and other industrial parks, Shenzhen Xinpeng Investment Company and other 12 industrial investment institutions have carried out cooperation and docking exchanges with 18 high-quality projects recommended by the organizing committee of the competition, accelerated the implementation of many cutting-edge application technology projects such as intelligent medical care and health, embodied intelligent robots, intelligent manufacturing and low-altitude economy, and boosted the Greater Bay Area to realize the full-time, full-time and full-scene application of “thousands of industries + AI”, and provided innovative practices for Shenzhen to build an artificial intelligence pioneer city.
