China emphasized at the UN Security Council that caution should be exercised and the situation in the Middle East should not escalate further.

Gate News reports that on April 3, Chinese Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Fu Cong, stated at an open Security Council meeting on cooperation between the United Nations and the Gulf Cooperation Council regarding the Middle East conflict that the origin of the conflict in the Middle East is rooted in the United States and Israel launching armed attacks against Iran. The fundamental way to prevent the situation from worsening is for the U.S. and Israel to cease military actions. China does not agree with Iran’s attacks on GCC countries. China condemns all indiscriminate attacks on innocent civilians and non-military targets, and emphasizes that shipping lane safety should not be disturbed. Ambassador Fu Cong stressed that the Security Council should uphold an objective, impartial, and fair stance. Under the current circumstances, authorizing member states to use force is no different from legitimizing illegal and abusive use of force, which will inevitably lead to further escalation and serious consequences. The Security Council must act cautiously and play a positive role in de-escalating the situation and restoring dialogue and negotiations.
