Cloudflare Acquires VoidZero; Vite Build Tool Hits 130M Weekly Downloads

Cloudflare said on June 5 it acquired VoidZero, a startup building open-source JavaScript and TypeScript developer tools, with founder Evan You and his team joining the firm. Vite, a front-end build tool created by You, has over 130 million weekly downloads. The deal aims to combine VoidZero's build tools with Cloudflare's network infrastructure to accelerate software deployment from local development to production, including applications generated by AI coding tools. You, also the creator of Vue.js, is a prominent figure in open-source development. Cloudflare said Vite and related projects would remain open source and pledged $1 million to an independent community fund for external contributors.
