Coal Mine Accident in Shanxi Kills 4, Leaves 90 Trapped Underground on May 22

According to Xinhua News Agency, a carbon monoxide alarm was triggered at Liushenyu Coal Mine in Qinyuan, Shanxi Province, on May 22 at 9:43 p.m., with 247 workers underground at the time. As of early May 23, 157 workers had been brought to the surface, including 4 fatalities. Ninety workers remain trapped underground, with 16 in critical condition. Rescue operations are ongoing.
