Container Shipping EC2608 Surges on Maersk Pricing Signal; Wk33 Opens at $4,600/FEU, Below Forecast

According to a research note from Yide Futures on July 29, the EC2608 container shipping futures contract rallied sharply in late Tuesday trading as the market priced in expectations for Maersk's weekly 33 rate announcement. Maersk's wk33 opening price settled at $4,600/FEU and $2,760/TEU, however, falling short of pre-market expectations of $4,800/FEU. Rising trading volumes coupled with declining open interest suggest profit-taking dominated the session. Analysts flagged potential downside pressure for Wednesday trading, citing a mismatch between short-term sentiment and underlying fundamentals in container supply and demand.
