European Shipping Rates Surge $1,000 Per Container in Early June, Driven by North American Route Strength

According to Haitong Futures report on June 8, European shipping rates surged by approximately $1,000 per container in early June, significantly outpacing the typical $300-400 monthly increase and entering a price-hike cycle expected to extend through July.

The sharp rise was driven by simultaneous jumps of $1,000-$2,000 on North American and South American routes, prompting vessel operators to price aggressively. Large freight forwarders have shown strong acceptance of higher rates, absorbing the increases. Analysts will monitor long-term contract volume declines and rolling order changes in coming weeks, alongside price movements on U.S. and South American routes.
