Illinois Governor Suspends Data Center Tax Incentives; Ohio Follows Suit

According to Jin10, on June 7, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker issued an order suspending tax incentives for data centers in the state, citing the state legislature's failure to advance his plan preventing data center energy costs from being passed to residents. The suspension does not affect agreements signed before July 1. Separately, Ohio also suspended similar incentives this week amid growing national opposition to data centers. Labor unions called for preserving the tax credits, warning the move could redirect investment and jobs to neighboring states. From 2020 to 2024, Illinois provided nearly $1 billion in data center tax incentives.
