Iran Charges Ships Up to $2M in Strait of Hormuz Transit Fees, Eyes Oil Revenue-Equivalent Gains

GateNews

According to Reuters, Iran’s military has imposed transit fees of up to $2 million on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz in recent weeks, citing its control over the strategic waterway. The move comes as U.S. sanctions have severely impacted Iran’s oil export capacity. Shipping brokers confirmed Iran now requires advance permits for all transiting vessels. Iranian military spokesperson Mohammad Akraminia stated on state media Press TV that the transit control arrangement would generate revenue equivalent to twice the nation’s oil income.
