U.S. to Deploy Tomahawk Missiles in Japan for Joint Exercise from June 22 to July 1

According to Japan's Ministry of Defense announcement on May 22, Japan's Self-Defense Forces will participate in the U.S.-led "Valiant Shield" joint exercise from June 22 to July 1. The U.S. military will deploy Tomahawk cruise missiles and High Mobility Rocket Artillery System (HIMARS) at Kanoya Air Base in Kagoshima Prefecture. The base will subsequently host Japan's Ground Self-Defense Force and U.S.-Australia joint "Orient Shield" exercise scheduled for September. After the exercises conclude, the deployed equipment will be withdrawn to U.S. military bases in Japan.
