Vietnam's Electricity Consumption Surges to 1.1 Billion kWh Record on May 13 Amid Heatwave

GateNews

According to Vietnam’s state-owned power utility, electricity consumption surged to a record 1.1 billion kilowatt-hours on May 13, driven by soaring temperatures. Peak load reached 52,000 megawatts at 4:10 p.m., equivalent to approximately 95% of 2025’s peak level. Vietnam’s government has issued action plans urging businesses and households to reduce energy consumption, citing forecasts of additional heatwaves in late May that could strain the grid further.
