Odaily Planet Daily News: On December 8 local time, U.S. President Trump stated that the U.S. government will allow NVIDIA to sell its H200 artificial intelligence chips to China, but will impose a 25% fee on each chip. The H200 is considered NVIDIA’s “second most powerful” AI chip. Trump said that the U.S. Department of Commerce is finalizing the relevant details, and AI chip exports from companies such as AMD and Intel will also be subject to the same arrangement. After the announcement, NVIDIA’s stock price rose 1.2% in after-hours trading. According to Reuters, this decision signifies a shift in the Trump administration’s policy on AI chips exported to China. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang has been lobbying the U.S. government for months to ease export restrictions. The report cites Huang’s view that the Chinese market is crucial for the competitiveness of the U.S. AI industry and that stable U.S.-China trade helps prevent both sides’ supply chains from suffering double damage.
