A woman in Texas shared with Decrypt that she was once refused a large cash deposit by a bank to pay her mortgage due to anti-money laundering regulations and no longer being listed on the account. Amid a tense divorce and nearly losing access to credit, she turned to crypto and self-custody wallets to maintain control of her assets.

The court later allowed her to use crypto trading profits to pay her child’s tuition and accepted blockchain explorer tools to verify that her assets were not moved. She believes that crypto has helped her regain financial independence and avoid reliance on the traditional banking system.

This story is seen by organizations like the Stellar Development Foundation and the National Cryptocurrency Association as an example of how digital assets can support vulnerable groups. The association was established and funded by Ripple to promote practical crypto applications rather than speculative quick wealth.
