Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei recently said in an interview that entry-level white-collar jobs in industries such as finance, consulting, and technology will first be assisted by AI and then replaced, with unemployment rates potentially soaring to 10% to 20%. He predicts this impact could become evident within one to five years.
Two years ago, AI was at the level of a smart high school student; now it’s at the level of a smart college student, and it continues to break through. Organizing files, brainstorming, writing financial reports—these are the basic tasks that are being done every day. Unlike previous technological revolutions, AI’s coverage is broader, its penetration deeper, and its advancement faster.
Amodei said that AI company CEOs are discussing this privately, but they haven’t communicated it to the general public and lawmakers, so he chose to speak out publicly. We cannot stop the AI train, but we have the opportunity to steer its direction. Measures include educating the public on how to use AI, helping workers adapt, and government intervention to balance economic competition—such as taxing AI companies.
