Australian Beef Imports Hit 80% of Designated Quota on May 15, China to Impose 55% Tariff When Limit Reached

According to China’s Ministry of Commerce Trade Remedies Bureau, Australian beef imports under safeguard measures reached 80% of the designated quota on May 15, 2026. Under Ministry of Commerce Announcement No. 87 (2025), a 55% additional tariff will be imposed on top of existing tariff rates starting from the third day (inclusive) after imports reach 100% of the designated quantity.
