EU Suspends Import Tariffs on Urea and Ammonia for One Year, to Save €60 Million

GateNews
According to EU Council announcement on May 22, the European Union decided to suspend import tariffs on urea and ammonia for one year to ease the impact of Middle Eastern tensions on European agriculture. The measure will take effect the day after publication in the EU Official Journal. The tariff suspension aims to reduce production costs for EU agriculture and the fertilizer industry, with projected savings of approximately 60 million euros. However, the exemption does not apply to fertilizer imports from Russia and Belarus. The EU imported 2 million tons of ammonia and 5.9 million tons of urea in 2024.
