Microsoft Invests Billions in Mistral AI Infrastructure Across Europe

Microsoft will invest billions of dollars in computing infrastructure linked to Paris-based Mistral, an AI startup developing large language models. Under the agreement, Azure customers will access Mistral's data center in France, while Mistral's Medium 3.5 and OCR 4 models have been integrated into Microsoft Foundry and Copilot Studio. Microsoft president Brad Smith noted the deal does not involve new equity investment in Mistral. Analysts said the tie-up helps Microsoft serve regulated industries as Europe prioritizes sovereign AI, with 62% of European organizations seeking locally controlled infrastructure and models.
