USDA Confirms Two New Screwworm Cases in Texas, Total Reaches Four

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), two additional New World screwworm cases were recently confirmed in Texas, bringing the total number of detected cases to four. The parasitic flies were identified in a calf in La Salle County and a dog in Andrews County, the latter having recently traveled to Mexico. The USDA plans to control the infestation by releasing sterilized male flies. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollings stated the U.S. will make "every effort" and invest over $1 billion to eliminate the screwworm from the country.
