Tomasz Stanczak will step down from his position as co-CEO of the Ethereum Foundation at the end of February 2026. Bastian Aue will assume the role of interim co-CEO alongside Hsiao-Wei Wang during the transition period.
Stanczak stated that during his leadership, the organization clarified its development roadmap, increased focus on scaling, privacy, AI integration, and promoting adoption by organizations. He believes Ethereum is entering a new phase, serving as infrastructure for on-chain verification and financial transactions, with strong growth in stablecoins and tokenized real-world assets.
This change occurs less than a year after the foundation officially adopted the co-CEO model. Previously, Aya Miyaguchi transitioned to the role of chairperson. Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin praised Stanczak for helping improve operational efficiency, increase responsiveness, and drive AI-oriented strategies within the ecosystem.
After stepping down, Stanczak said he will continue to participate in building the ecosystem, focusing on developing agentic and governance aspects.
