According to Chainalysis, the total on-chain ransomware payments in 2025 reached over $820 million, down 8% from $892 million in 2024. However, the final figure could rise close to or exceed $900 million.

Despite a slight decrease in revenue, the number of attacks increased by 50%, according to data from eCrime.ch, making 2025 the most active year on record. The victim ransom payment rate dropped to a record low of 28%. Meanwhile, the median payment surged by 368%, from $12,738 to $59,556.

Bitcoin remains the preferred payment method due to its borderless nature and high liquidity. The report also shows that Initial Access Brokers received around $14 million, playing a key role in the cybercrime ecosystem.
